Great lighting is what makes the difference between an amateur portrait render and a professional one. In this workshop, CG Supervisor Christopher Barischoff steps through what makes a photography studio styled lighting setup successful for characters and portraits. He covers classic photographic and cinematic lighting and expands on its implementation in 3D Graphics. Utilizing the Emma model provided by Satoshi Takazawa Lighting the CG Portrait takes a renderer-agnostic approach to the fundamentals of lighting using VRay Next, covering both the artistic and technical aspects of creating beautiful and compelling light setups.

Chris Barishcoff is an LA-based CG artist with over a decade of lighting experience in film, TV, commercials, and animation. He's currently the CG Supervisor for the ad agency Brand New School, working for such clients as Google, Apple, and Starbucks. Previously, he handled lighting for visual effects studios such as Framestore, Zoic Studios, and The Mill, with credits including Priest, Premium Rush, Terminator Salvation, Once Upon a Time, Fringe, Castle, Wonderland, and Pan-Am. He's also worked for multiple commercial agencies and creative houses, including Psyop, Blur Studio, Mirada, Blind, and Spinifex.
Chris is like a digital alchemist. I would give him all of these crazy, disparate parts and somehow he would pull them together to create pure gold!
Chris has always shown a deep understanding of his craft and an effortless ability to explain the more complex part of it to those outside the art of lighting. I highly recommend Chris both as a lighter and teacher of this art form.
